So, just a few hours after Liberia was declared “Ebola free!”, ending the epic Ebola outbreak, Sierra Leone confirmed a new Ebola death. Sierra Leone had been officially Ebola-free since November 7.
In a way, this is sort of reassuring (not that another outbreak of the disease is good news) because there might have been pressure for the outbreak to stay ended, even if there were more cases uncovered. Fortunately, the authorities have done the right thing by testing a suspicious case and immediately activating all the appropriate protocols.
As I said yesterday, all three countries are able to beat this disease when it crops up again, as it inevitably will.
