Leaving Liberia

Three years to the day after our arrival, we are leaving Liberia.

Departing post is always a bag of mixed emotions.  We’ve made some good friends here, and, I hope, done some good both professionally and in the community.  It’ll be sad to leave our friends and our relatively comfortable way of living.  On the other hand, I won’t be sad to leave the frustrations behind (power issues all week, water issues for the past two weeks, and so on) but know I’ll just be trading them in for a different set of frustrations.  Or, in the case of work, a different slice of the same bureaucracy.

Also, it’s about time for a vacation.  Luckily, I get to take (actually, sort of have to take) “home leave” before reporting for duty at my next assignment, which will be back in the mothership.  We’ll have a couple of weeks in Colorado (so we can dry out from the humidity here) before going back to Virginia.  It’ll be a whirlwind, but well worth it.
